Dogsledge, snow mobile, The Ice Cap and the northern lights - all the biggest winter experiences of Greenland in 7 days
As something new Explore Greenland now can offer a pre-packaged winter journey with all the distinctive winter experiences included. In Kangerlussuaq the excursion to the ice cap is a must and Sisimiut, which in the last few years has established itself on the map as a great winter destination, can offer all the popular winter activities. The journey starts with 2 nights in Kangerlussuaq, to where you go directly by airplane from Copenhagen. Arrival is already before noon the first day, so there is plenty of time to get out into the winter world as soon as you get there. Just after arrival there is transfer to the youth hostel Old Camp, and immediately after a short information meeting will be held. Here you will be informed about the place and the excursions. See more about excursions around Kangerlussuaq here. During the day, you will be taken on a sightseeing by bus around the village, so you easily can find your way on your own the next days. A visit to the museum is also included. On the second day we go by all-terrain vehicle into the Ice Cap, which is stretching its endless expanses as far as the eye can see. After 2 days the journey will go on to Sisimiut, Greenland's second largest city and as such it is home to several major institutions and government agencies. For the tourists, the city has often been somewhat forgotten with its location here in the middle between North and South Greenland, each of which has its distinctive characteristics. But the last few years the city has put different focus on its qualities and has made itself noticed as an eventful and functional winter destination especially. The destination is marketed with the words "Rough - real - remote" - and such is Sisimiut in winter. Here life is lived with an authenticity that only with the Greenlanders' understanding of nature can be reconciled with the modern life in Greenland, which Sisimiut also represents.
Well arrived in Sisimiut we bid again at a short briefing followed by a city tour. The following days are spent exploring the city's culture through visits to church, museum, crafts workshop and a local Greenlandic home where you are let into a part of daily life in the city. Of course we have also included a dog sledge tour, which is a must on a winter trip to Greenland. It is an amazing experience to sit on a sledge and let yourself be led out into a winter wonderland, where we make all the sounds you hear ourselves. Dogs neck off, the sun warms your face and you find yourself amidst a scenario that will give you beautiful views, you never forget. For the truly adventurous, there is a opportunity to buy a ride on a snowmobile that can quickly bring you up to the desolate landscapes and magnificent vistas.
